Chitin: A Material with Endless Possibilities
Chitin is a natural polymer found in the shells of crustaceans, insects, and fungi, valued for its strength, versatility, and biodegradability, with applications in cosmetics, textiles, agriculture, and bioplastics.
Chitosan is a derivative of Chitin that possesses enhanced properties including solubility, biocompatibility, and biodegradability, leading to wider applicability. The process of converting chitin into chitosan, called deacetylation, requires a lot of chemicals, energy, and is expensive to produce.
